It's August and DI Andy Horton has two gripping crimes to solve
THE PORTSMOUTH MURDERS ( Book 1)
A hot Bank Holiday morning on the South Coast of England. Detective Inspector Andy Horton is running early along the pebbled beach at Southsea. The fog has yet to clear. He almost stumbles over the naked body of a man on the shore.
"The face was almost obliterated. Blood had seeped onto the pebbled beach, dark red, staining the stones around the man's head. Bottle-green seaweed was wrapped around his ankles and he was naked; his arms were outstretched, he palms facing upward, fingers curled.
........
"He straightened up, wiping the sweat from his face, and stared around, but all he could see was the fog and all he could hear was the mournful boom of the foghorns in the Solent calling to one another like long lost giants.
.....
It's Detective Andy Horton's second day back in Portsmouth CID following his suspension. Eight months ago, his life fell apart when he was suspended for misconduct. His wife, Catherine, kicked him out and stopped him seeing his daughter, Emma. The young woman who’d accused him went missing and the charges were dropped, but Horton's personal and professional life are still in a mess. Now he has a point to prove he's still a good cop, And he's determined to clear his name.

THE OYSTER QUAYS MUDERS ( Book 9)
DI Andy Horton and his colleague, Detective Sergeant Cantelli, have had many more cases to solve in the ensuing year (check out the list of books here) and this one, THE OYSTER QUAYS MURDERS ( Book 9) on a thoroughly wet August, proves to be particularly challenging. Add to this is Horton's on going quest to discover what happened to his mother, Jennifer, when she disappeared when he was child.
"Horton squinted through the rain of his visor watching the police vehicle stop at the end of the road in front of the Hard. They'd probably been called to a fight at one of the pubs there. He should go home, but as the lights changed, he found himself swinging right, instead of heading straight ahead, home to his boat
.....
"Thought you were on holiday,' Cantelli said zapping the car locked.
"I am."
"Yeah, can't think of anywhere I'd rather be on a wet August night in a persishing wind looking at a dead body."
